Benue State House of Assembly urged the State Government to liaise with other states in the North Central region to prevail on the Federal Government to establish the North Central Development Commission.
When established, the proposed Commission is to recover and construct programmes of safe return and reintegration of refugees and Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) to their places of abode.
Speaker, Benue State House of Assembly, Mr. Terkimbi Ikyange gave this ruling after a debate on a motion of urgent public importance, calling on the Federal Government to establish the North Central Development Commission moved by the Majority Leader, Barr. Benjamin Adanyi.
According to him, it will also be the function of the yet to be established North Central Development Commission to take a holistic study of the crisis in the affected communities and rehabilitate the IDPs accordingly, as well as fashioning out permanent solutions that will curb the recurrence of such unfortunate incidence in the region.
The House equally called on members of the two chambers of the National Assembly from the North Central region to initiate a bill that will establish the North Central Development Commission without further delay.
While moving the motion, Barr. Benjamin Adanyi explained that due to the huge destruction of lives and property occasioned by incessant herdsmen attacks on farmers in many communities across the region, there was every need to have a Commission that would rebuild and reconstruct affected communities.
All those who contributed to the debate on the motion stressed the need for the establishment of the Commission and commended the Majority Leader for taking the lead in finding solution to the development of the region.
