Ministry of Information, Agencies defend 2017 budget proposal

The House of Representative has identified inadequate funding as the major factor militating against agencies of government under the Ministry of Information from effective discharge of their responsibilities.

The Chairman, House of Representatives Committee on Information, National Orientation Ethics and Values, Mr Olusegun Odebumi, stated this during the 2017 Budget defense with the Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed in Abuja.

Mr Odebumi explained that lack of adequate financial allocation to the Agencies was seriously hampering the performances stressing that the agencies were living on their old glory despite the stiff competition the industry was experiencing globally.

Earlier, in his submission, the Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, appealed to the Committee to support the Ministry and its Agencies describing the Information Sector as the life wire of every democratic government.

Alhaji Lai Mohammed remarked that the desire on the part of the Committee to ensure that Agencies of Government under the Ministry thrives punted to the synergy Nigerians yearn for.

Alhaji Lai Mohammed informed the Committee that the envelope  sealing for the Ministry and its Agencies under Information stood at forty nine billion Naira with the Ministry having seven point nine billion Naira.
