KOGI: ASUU embarks on indefinite strike over unpaid salaries

The Academic Staff Union of Universities, Kogi State University, Anyigba branch has embarked on indefinite strike over unpaid salaries.
The Acting Chairman of the Union, Dr Daniel Oluwagbemiga Aina stated this during a news briefing in Lokoja.

Dr Aina noted that the strike became a necessity in view of the hardship the lecturers and the institution were passing through.

Dr Aina said the conduct of screening exercise was alien to the university system and that Kogi State branch of ASUU had resolved not to be subjected to such practice.

He said part of the demand of the union was reconstitution of the university governing council which gives autonomy and stands it out among other institutions.

In a reaction, the State Commissioner for Education, Dr Sunday Tolorunleke, said the screening was to check financial leakages.

Dr Tolorunleke said the reconstitution of the governing council of the university would be done after the screening.
