Electronic Automation Of Clearing Operations In Nigeria Sea Ports To Commence Soon

The planned introduction of electronic automation of clearing operations in Nigeria sea ports will commence as soon as the Federal Government gives the go ahead.

The executive secretary of the Nigerian shippers council Hassan Bello said this has become imperative as one of the measures to eliminate endemic corruption in the clearing system in Nigerian ports

Bello told journalists in Abuja that the move is part of the emergency reforms to sanitize freight activities in Nigeria and make shipping a leading contributor to the country’s gross domestic product.

The shippers council boss said that Nigeria loses over 20 billion naira annually to corruption at the seaports and hopes that the new regime will curb such loses

The ports automation system is to be implemented after the standard operations system was introduced about two years across Nigeria.
